I am a manager that worked for Ed Nam at EPA. Ed Nam is insecure and tries to compensate by tearing down his subordinate managers. He has had several fights with his managers, including me, in multiple divisions that he has led due to his jealousy and lack of understanding of the programs he is supposed to be leading. He doesn't understand the programs he manages and gets upset when his managers correct him. He yelled at me, saying that I am correcting him and that he is the Director and I shouldn't be doing that, despite the fact that he was demonstrably wrong. He is bumbling, incompetent, hypocritical and in way over his head. He is unprofessional in his dealings with subordinates, yelling and insulting them. He tells staff that he hears their issues and will address them and then degrades the employee to his management team. I would never hire him for a job and if the EPA, Region 5 had a competent Deputy Regional Administrator, Ed Nam would have been removed from his position long ago.
